Inter District carrom - record teams
Hyderabad January 10/2012 (Hyderabad Deccan News) : As a gift for 40th foundation day Hyderabad Carrom Association had the most pleasant surprise when all the ten telangana districts fielded two teams each in the Men's Team Championship of 40th Senior Inter-District-cum-State CarromChampionship being held at Yoga Hall of Tennis Complex at L.B.Stadium. The schedule of the championship dedicated to past President of HYCA Late Dr.Y. Appa Rao, would have gone hay-wire but for the co-operation of the participating teams who decided to go through the preliminary league today itself, come what may. Even as Hon'ble Chief Minister was giving away Cash Incentives in the neighboring Indoor Stadium, Yoga Hall was reverberating with cheers of the 300 and odd players and fans, which cannot go unnoticed.
The Championship was earlier inaugurated by Sri S.R. Premraj, Director of Sports, GHMC who informed the twin cities players that every stadium under GHMC has a minimum of 4 boards and with some of the stadia having even 8 boards of international standard. Shri B.K. Haranath, who presided over the function recalled the fact that over forty years of HYCA, 35 carrom players are lucratively appointed in major institutions like LIC, RBI, Indian Audit, BSNL and Income-tax etc.,
The teams were divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each with one team of each group qualifying for knock-out stage. Some of the first days results are as below :
