We'll overcome resignations' problem shortly: PM

New Delhi, July 31: The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has said that it should be possible to overcome the problem of resignations of Telangana MLAs and MPs shortly.
Talking to the media here on Sunday, Dr Singh said the Congress party would face the challenge arising out of the resignations of MPs. Meanwhile, the Union minister and Congress leader in charge of AP affairs, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has called up the Rajya Sabha member, Dr K Keshav Rao, twice on Sunday morning and asked him to advise all the Telangana MPs to withdraw their resignations in view of Parliament session starting on Monday.
According to the information, Dr Keshav Rao told Mr Azad that it would not be possible to withdraw the resignations unless the Congress High Command and the Centre came up with a specific assurance on Telangana. He is believed to have told Mr Azad that it would not be good to the MPs and the Congress party to withdraw resignations at this juncture. As the Telangana movement was at its peak, the people would not tolerate any going back on the resignations now, he is reported to have clarified.
MPs REFUSE TO WITHDRAW RESIGNATIONS
The Telangana Congress MPs, who have submitted resignations on Sunday met in the house of the Nizamabad MP, Mr Madhu Yashki, in Hyderabad and decided not to withdraw their resignations. They have discussed the strategy they should adopt in view of the ensuing Parliament session. They are believed to have discussed what to do, if the Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meera Kumar, rejected their resignations. It is learnt that some of the MPs have suggested that they should attend Parliament in case their resignations were rejected and disrupt the proceedings.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the MP, Mr Manda Jagannatham, said that they have decided not to withdraw their resignations until a clear assurance was given on the Telangana issue. He said the Speaker of Lok Sabha has not interacted with them. He said they would take a decision on Monday on whether or not to attend Parliament, if the Speaker kept their resignations pending. He said they would be meeting Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi on Monday.
The MPs, Mr Rajaiah, Mr G. Vivek, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar, Mr Balaram Naik, Mr Manda Jagannatham and others have attended the meeting. (Agencies)
