Telangana Jagriti chief Kavita arrested
Hyderabad, Aug 1(Hyderabad Deccan News): While the authorities of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation started demolishing unauthorized buildings in the Ayyappa Housing Society in Madapur on the directives of the High Court, the Telangana Jagriti chief, Ms Kalwakuntla Kavita, on Monday squatted before the house of the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's brother demanding that the authorities demolish the illegal structures of the VIPs first before touching the abodes of middle class families.
Questioning the partisan attitude of the authorities in felling the houses of only middle class persons while sparing those of affluent and influential persons, Ms Kavita raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the GHMC officials and asked them to go back. However, the police took her into custody when she bluntly refused to go away and whisked her away to the Madapur police station.
Following the orders of the High Court, the GHMC officials, accompanied by a demolition squad, went to the Ayyappa Society Colony on Monday morning and started demolishing buildings stating that they were illegal structures. On receipt of the information, the Telangana Jagruti leader rushed to the spot and sat before the house of the Chief Minister's brother and demanded that the officials demolish that particular house first and touch the houses of middle class people later.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved persons, along with the local MLA, Mr Bhikshapati Yadav, rushed to the Chief Minister and pleaded with him to stop the demolitions. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy reportedly expressed his helplessness in the matter as the order came from the High Court several times.
It may be mentioned here that the High Court censured the GHMC for ignoring the illegal structures in the city. Whenever the High Court pulled them up for inaction towards the illegal structures, the officials were waking up from deep slumber and taking action.
As the situation remained tense, the police, not only made elaborate bandobust arrangements to prevent hurdles to the demolition drive, but also imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 Cr.P.C.
