State tops in implementation of MGNREGP: CM

Hyderabad, August 7(Hyderabad Deccan News): The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has said the State has been in the forefront in the successful implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. He said that under the programme, a record number of 1.22 crore job cards have been issued in 22 districts covering 1,098 mandals and 183 lakh individuals in 91,33,801 households have been provided wage employment in 69,002 habitations of 21,860 gram panchayats, he added.
Total expenditure incurred so far includes Rs 16,585 crores of which total wage expenditure is Rs 12,414 crores while the material component amounts to Rs 3,363 crores. So far, 16,12,494 works have been completed.
Referring to some of the unique features of MGNREGS in the State, the Chief Minister said the use of IT for logistics such as electronic fund management, electronic muster and measurement have yielded results. A project mode planning approach has been evolved. Comprehensive land development of lands of poor, including land inventory of SCs and STs, formation of labour groups and preparation of work employment plan and all wage payments to be made through biometric authentications are some of the other features.
The Chief Minister felt that one of the major reasons for the tremendous success of the scheme in Andhra Pradesh is due to Social audit being conducted through a well organized network of NGOs. A 24x7 call centre has been operationalised so as to enable the people to register complaints. However, in order to widen the scope of the MGNREGS, the Chief Minister wanted that certain works have to be included to benefit a large amount of rural population. Unskilled labour charges in housing activities under the rural housing programme, clearing of debris and cleaning of the village drains under the village santitation programme, vegetable cultivation and sericulture programmes in SC/ST lands and unskilled wages in construction of Biogas plants and providing 150 days wage employment to vulnerable sections of the population such as the SC/ST households. These issues were taken up with the Union Minister for Rural Development, Mr Jairam Ramesh, during his visit to Hyderabad on Saturday.

Eka Veera postponed to March 2

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (INN): The discipline of old times is gone, so it appears. When a commitment is given people used to stick to that. Arm twisting by biggies is not a new phenomenon but still there was respect for values.

Now everything is done in a huff, from launch to pack-up, audio to result. What is more surprising is films are getting delayed, postponed and badly bruised.

Of late there have been many films that deferred the date of release due to what has come to be known as post production work. Announcing the date first and working at breakneck speed has become a fad which will have its ill-effects.

Dabbawallas will take a day off on August 16

Mumbai, August 5: Extending support to social activist Anna Hazare over the Lokpal Bill issue, Mumbai's famous dabbawallas (lunch-box carriers) on Friday said there would be no service on August 16, the day he proposed to start his hunger strike.
About 4,500-5,000 dabbawallas transport some 2,00,000 homemade lunch packs every day at a very low fee and with surprising punctuality. But not on August 16.
"We support Anna Hazare in his fight for the strong Lokpal Bill. On August 16, when Annaji would go on a fast, we have decided to show our support by asking our customers not to give tiffins for delivery,' said President o .... Read More
