Australia condemns Syria bombings
The Australian Government strongly condemns the bombings in Damascus.
We extend sympathy and deep condolences to the families of the victims.
We condemn all acts of violence and terrorism, and those responsible should be brought to justice.
The people of Syria have made clear all year their desire for political reform in Syria and deserve to see their aspiration for a peaceful transition to an inclusive, democratic Syria realised.
"The Australian Government stands with the people of Syria in this endeavour and supports the efforts of the Arab League in this process," said Acting Foreign Minister, Martin Ferguson AM MP.
"It is vital that the work of the Arab League observer mission which commenced today should proceed unimpeded."
The Australian Government repeats its call for President Assad to step down.
