A centenary of science
Hyderabad Deccan News January 06/2012 : The Aurora Australia set sail for Commonwealth Bay yesterday, almost 100 years to the day since Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE). Science was at the heart of the AAE, as Mawson and the other scientists onboard the Aurora in 1911 recognised the importance of Antarctica in answering scientific questions of local and global importance. As well as commemorating the AAE at the Mawson's Huts Historic Site, today's modern-day scientists will conduct marine research in the footsteps of the founder of Australia's modern Antarctic science program.
