President, Vice President, Prime Minister wish nation on Janmashtami

New Delhi, Aug 27 2013 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice-President M Hamid Ansari on Tuesday wished the nation on the occasion of Janmashtami. In his message, Mukherjee said: "On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, I extend heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my fellow citizens."

"Let us, on this sacred day, recall the teachings of Lord Krishna which have for centuries, been an inspiration to us to follow the path of virtue and righteousness in thought, word and deed," he said.

"May Lord Krishna's noble message of 'Nishkama Karma' or duty without thought of reward, motivate all of us to work in unity and with selfless dedication for peace, prosperity and progress in our country," Mukherjee said.

Greeting the nation on the occasion, Singh said that Janamashtami celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

"It should be an occasion to remind ourselves of Lord Krishna`s eternal message of performing one`s duty without any thought of the reward," he said.

"May the festival bring happiness, peace and prosperity to the people, he added," the PM said.

Wishing the nation, Ansari said: "I extend my greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the occasion of Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna."

"This festival, celebrated with gaiety and piety throughout the country, is an appropriate occasion to recall the important message of Lord Krishna that attainment of happiness in life and freedom from bondage is by doing one's duty efficiently, without being attached to or affected by the eventual result," he said.

"May this auspicious day bring us peace, joy and harmony," Ansari said in his message.

India will celebrate Janmashtami on Wednesday. It marks the birth of Lord Krishna.
