Journalist Arup K Datta relaunched his book on art, 'Shapes & Forms' republished by 'Akar Prakar'
Kolkata, July 10 (IBNS): Journalist Arup K Datta, who relaunched his book on art, 'Shapes & Forms' at a city gallery here on Monday, said that currently many people are taking interest in Indian art.
Arup K Datta's book, 'Shapes & Forms', which was first published in 1973, has been republished by 'Akar Prakar' art gallery.
The author, at the launch, said: "My book was first published in 1970's. But, at that point of time people were hardly interested in any artwork offered by Indian artists. Naturally, there was no market for the book."
"Today, the scenario has changed significantly. We have so many art galleries in different cities. Almost one lakh artists are working these days."
"Back at that time, though I received good reviews about my book, I never had the market. Now, when people are taking interest in arts I thought that it will be a good idea to re-launch my book" added the author.
The book 'Shapes & Forms' throws light on the life and works of few noted Indian artists.
Talking about his book the author said: "My book is a study of five noted artists of Bengal and their work. Their style differs, as their subjects and interests, their common ground being a refreshing departure from the traditional Indian art form."
"My book features the work of artists like Sunil Madhav Sen, Nirode Mazumdar, Prokash Karmakar, Dhiraj Choudhury and Sunil Das."
Artist Sunil Das, who was present at the event, said: "I would say that it is an excellent effort put forward by Arup. We need to promote Indian art. In order to do so we need to contribute in the process."
