Speaker trying to gag members: Babu
Hyderabad, Aug 11 (THD NEWS): The leader of Opposition, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said that it was the Assembly that gave the Speaker his powers. Talking to mediapersons at the TDLP office here on Tuesday, after the House was adjourned, the former chief minister criticized the attitude of the Speaker, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and alleged that he was gagging the Opposition. Instead of protecting the rights and improving their opportunities, the Speaker was scuttling members' rights, he charged.While the electronic media was given full freedom to telecast the proceedings of the House during his regime, the present government had imposed restrictions on the media coverage, he said. He demanded that the questions posed by the Opposition and the replies of the government should be telecast live on the TV channels. He said people would know the facts through the telecasts. The former chief minister alleged that while their protests were blacked out, the TV channels were made to repeatedly show the Chief Minister and the Speaker. He has reminded that proceedings of Parliament were being shown live on TV.
