Muslims offer special Alvida Jummah prayers

Hyderabad, Sept 3 (Hyderabad Deccan News): Around two lakh devout Muslims converged on the historic Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad on the occasion of "Alvida Jummah' or "Jummatul Vida' as it is known in the local parlance to offer prayers on the last Friday of the Holy Month of Ramzaan. Special prayers marking the Alvida Jummah were also reported from across the state.
Moulana Abdullah Qureshi al-Azhari delivered his sermon and led the devout in prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid.
Delivering his sermon in Arabic, Moulana Abdullah Qureshi prayed for the unity among the citizens of the country.
He exhorted Muslims to live in peaceful coexistence with their fellow citizens and advised them to follow the Islamic tenets of charity by looking after the needy in society. The Imam told Muslims to make extra effort to remove the sufferings of fellow citizens by giving zakat to the needy.
Moulana Abdullah Qureshi pointed out that the Islamic world is witnessing its most turbulent times and prayed for unity and strength amongst Muslims around the world.
He also called on Muslims to introspect on their lives during the past year and repents for their since Ramzaan would pass within a week.
AP High Court Chief Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru, Justice Ghulam Muhammad, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi were among the prominent personalities who attended the prayers at the Mecca Masjid.
The devout offering prayers spilled over from the Mecca Masjid and prayed on the road. The rows extended till the Princess Esra Hospital on the southern side of the Mecca Masjid, till the Telephone Bhavan on the eastern side of the Charminar towards Kotla Alijah, in Lad Bazaar and till the Char Kaman on the northern side of the Charminar.
City police Commissioner AK Khan and South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhusudan Reddy personally oversaw the security arrangements.
Muslims also offered prayers at Jama Masjid Chowk, Jama Masjid Barkas, Jama Masjid Secunderabad, Masjid-e- Saifa (Azampura), Masjid-e-Osmania Sarfekhaas Paltan (Malakpet) Masjid-e-Vazeer Ali ( Fateh Darwaza), Masjid-e-Fasi Jung (Maozzam Market) Jama Masjid Afzulgunj, Masjid-e-Khaja Gulshan (Mehdipatnam) Masjid-e-Azizia, Jama Masjid (Musheerabad) and Jama Masjid Darusshifa and other Masjids across the city.
