Kodandaram behind desecration of statues: Yerrannaidu

Srikakulam, March 13 (INN): Describing the desecration and damage of statues of renowned Telugu personalities which were installed on the Tank Bund during the Million March last Thursday as "heinous and utterly condemnable, Telugu Desam Party Politburo member K Yerrannaidu on Sunday alleged that he suspected a conspiracy hatched by Telangana Political Joint Action Committee convenor Kodandaram to be the reason behind the incident.
Talking to media persons here, Mr Yerrannaidu said that he suspected the hand of Prof Kodandaram behind the desecration and destruction of the statues. The senior TDP leader demanded the immediate arrest and registration of cases against Prof Kodandaram. He also demanded that strict action should be taken against the TPJAC convenor.
Mr Yerrannaidu also took serious objection over the comments allegedly made by Prof Kodandaram that he would perform last rites of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Terming these of Kodandaram as `unfortunate,' Mr Yerrannaidu said, "These type of comments are in violation of the Constitution of India and against the democratic principles and spirit of the country. How can he achieve the Telangana state without having confidence in the Constitution of India?'
The senior TDP leader demanded that the state government reinstall the statues damaged and ensure that such actions of vandalism are not repeated. "The statues must be preserved for posterity,' he said.
