Hyderabad : (Editorial) Muslim Reservations

Hyderabad, Feb. 14 (By: Syed Ather Hasan): The High Court of AP gave its verdict against Muslim reservation on Monday. Its seven member division bench scrapped the 4% reservation to Muslims provided by Congress Government. This is big blow to the progress and economic development of Muslim community. This judgment will have long term implications on the Muslims of this country, there are always vested interests that are prepared to block any developing initiative of the government. The bench was divided on the issue, however it was passed due to four out of seven Judges favoured the cancellation of reservations and three did not buy the idea of cancellation. Our constitution has guaranteed equality to all citizens of this country, now in last amendment it made right to education also but there is still much to do. The reservation was cancelled citing reason that it can not be given on the basis of religion, this is nothing but playing with wrong interpretation of law and technicalities. If the basis of reservation is weaker sections of the society then why there is any requirement of mentioning caste in it. Caste is not something out of religious boundaries. There is no fault of Muslims if the Hindu society did not do any progress in dealing with social equality, for a Muslim it is depriving them of the benefits of government schemes. A non Hindu feels that all the opportunities are only for Hindus as effluent Hindus get Jobs and other benefits due their access to the power lobbies and rest of them are getting it through reservations. if we take social aspect into consideration of caste system then we can understand that caste though carved in olden days by means of recognizing the trades in which that group is involved but the division in society is vertical on this matter, there is no inter caste mingling, every caste is preserved as a community, people of every caste prefers relations only with in their boundaries, there is no marriage among different caste. Thus in practice the caste is like a separate group which is no less than religious group so the reservation can be provided on this ground, but if this logic is not accepted then where is the share of minorities of this country, where a big junk of benefit is provided only to majority community in veil of reservations, isn't this inequality. it is high time that government bring a bill in parliament and make amendment in the existing reservation system, it must see that the benefits of reservations are passed on to every eligible person of this country, it can also allocate reservations as per the population of the particular group, otherwise those who are using this system will never allow others to be part of reservation due to their selfish goals.
