GHMC conducts BPS Melas to regularise buildings
Hyderabad, December 22 (INN): GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu on Saturday requested the building owners to avail the benefit from the Building Penalisation Scheme Melas being held in all circles to regularise the unauthorised construction.
Addressing a press conference here, the Commissioner said that the BPS Melas, that began on Saturday would continue till December 31, including holidays to allow people to regularise their buildings. Furnishing the details, the GHMC had received a total No of 2,05,023 BPS applications, out of which 1,36,716 applications were so far approved under the BPS. Still 27,860 eligible BPS applications are pending for payment of balance penal amount and for submission of required documents with GHMC by the building owners.
Therefore, Krishna Babu said that the building owners who have already applied under the BPS could take advantage of the on-going BPS Melas till December 31 by paying balance penal amount and also by furnishing required documents.
The Commissioner warned that penal action would be initiated against the buildings/ constructions not covered by Building Penalization Scheme. As part of it, the unauthorized construction would be treated as continuing offence and exemplary penalty would be levied as per Municipal Laws amended recently. A penalty of 25 per cent on Property Tax shall be levied till the unauthorized construction is demolished or regulated and other enforcement action including demolition of the building will be initiated.
Further, the GHMC has sent the proposal to the government recommending 200 to 600 per cent penalty on the cost of land and building for the violators, Krishna Babu said.
