(Editorial) It's an example every one must follow
Yesterday, Hon'ble Governor of AP, Narsimhan got a minor surgery done at Gandhi Hospital which is a famous government hospital in Hyderabad. He has really set an example which all others must follow especially people in public life particularly those who are holding higher positions in government.
we have this tradition in our country where from common people to diplomats, bureaucrats and businessmen prefer private hospitals for treatment and this is because majority of the population does not have faith in government run health centres and hospitals, only those who cannot afford private hospitals normally go to government hospitals. Though government spends crores of rupees on these hospitals and its staff but there is always careless and callous attitude of these hospitals which made every citizen sick of them. Commonly it is noticed that from lower staff to surgeons every one feels he is doing a favour to the patients, they do not pay much attention to the patients, lack of interest is always there, every one working there would normally either come late or remain absent, thus the whole health care system provided by government is going waste and now nobody has faith in it.
This deterioration of government hospitals has happened due to wide spread corruption, as every one is hand in glove to make money out of it. To make the things worse no bureaucrat, MP, MLA and Minister ever feels to get their treatment there. It is a shame that previously our Prime Ministers also did not care even to have treatment in India they preferred foreign treatment or by foreign Doctors. Actually it should have been that it must become mandatory for all those who are holding public offices get their medical treatment done only at government hospital, have this has happened then the whole scenario would have been different. On the other hand all famous Doctors of this country got name and fame only because of these Government hospitals, they show their experience working with these hospitals and once they are recognized they turn their back to it. Many Doctors resign from these hospitals to start their own private practice. Another jolt to these hospitals is that government allowed their workers to get treatment at private corporate hospitals where it pays the expenses. This system has made the private hospitals greedier as they make the bills more by including unnecessary expenses in it. This is extra burden on exchequer. It is an irony for the common man that he has no place for to look for his medical requirement but to bow before these greedy doctors' demands.
