DS convinces rebel candidate to withdraw from fray

Hyderabad, March 6 (Hyderabad Deccan News): In a major relief to the ruling Congress, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Sunday used his immense political experience and clout to persuade rebel party candidate Settibattula Kumara Raja to withdraw his candidature from the East Godavari Local Bodies Constituency elections for the Legislative Council.
Following Mr Srinivas's persuasion, Mr Kumara Raja vowed to withdraw his candidature in the presence of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Mr Kumara Raja had earlier announced that he would be one of the six candidates to contest the elections for the MLC seat from the East Godavari Local Bodies Constituency.
The withdrawal of nomination by Mr Kumara Raja leaves the official Congress candidate Gidugu Rudraraju to deal with his rival Kudipudi Chittabbayi. Mr Chittabbayi is a loyalist of former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He would be contesting as an independent.
According to reports, 14 sets of nominations were filed on behalf of these six candidates. While four sets of nominations were filed on behalf of Mr Rudraraju, three sets each were filed by TDP nominee Boddu Bhaskararamarao and Mr Chittabbaui.
Two set of nominations were filed on behalf of Mr Kumara Raja while the two independent candidates, Rudraraju Nagaraju and Datla Subbaraju saw one set each filed on their behalf.
