Chiru gets MLAs' nod for merger

Hyderabad, March 7 (Hyderabad Deccan News): Elected representatives of the Praja Rajyam Party on Monday authorized their party president K Chiranjeevi to merge the party with the Congress.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of general body meeting held at Vasanth Vihar Kalyanamantapam, Nagole, LB Nagar in the city, Mr Chiranjeevi stated that the Legislators present at the meeting have authorized him to merge the party with Congress.
Mr Chiranjeevi said that all the party MLAs unanimously supported the decision to merge the party with the Congress.
The actor-turned-politician called upon party members to continue carrying forward the party ideals of social justice. He also exhorted them to continue with the party's welfare programmes even after the merger is formalized.
Mr Chiranjeevi made it clear Monday's meeting was not a "farewell' to the PRP but the party will continue within the Congress.
The Tirupati MLA also extended his gratitude to the party leaders and cadre for their cooperation with him and their support in times of crisis.
The PRP chief also lauded his MLAs for playing constructive role as a responsible party in the Assembly. "Except the change in name and the party flag, the party principles are same and there is no change in our agenda,' he stated.
Meanwhile PRP official spokesman Vasireddy Padma on Monday submitted her resignation to her post and party primary membership. Ms Padma is reported miffed at not getting nominated as a candidate for the Legislative Council seat.
In her resignation letter to party president K Chiranjeevi, Ms Padma stated that she was resigning to party unable to digest the merger of the party with Congress. Mr Chiranjeevi has chosen party leader C Ramachandraiah for the MLC seat.
