Rituparna Sengupta unveils the music of Taaan


Kolkata, Oct 7 (IBNS): Tollywood actress Rituparna Sengupta Saturday unveiled the music of her film 'Taaan', made on the existence of pirates, peasants and sex workers plying their trade in estuarine Sundarbans, in the presence of her co-actors and crew.

The album which consists of six songs are penned by Srijato and Jewel Mahmud while the music has been composed by Indradip Dasgupta.

"Since the film is set against the backdrop of Sundarban, folk music has been used in great amount to generate the feel of folklore," said the music director.

The songs not only limit themselves to folk numbers but traverses through love ballads and gypsy songs with the ambiance of the water bodies and the locales percolating in to them.

The event was sizzled by the performances of Anweshaa, Sumana Chakraborty and Ujjaini Mukherjee while Lopamudra Mitra, June Banerjee, Zubeen Garg and Mohan Kanan also rendered their voices to the album.

Speaking to IBNS, Rituparna said," I always want to do something different and this film features a new concept of water prostitution as well as the 'Taaan' (connection) of the riverside people."

The glamour and glitterati was added to the launch with the presence of actors Sumanto Chattopadhyay, Debleena Dutta, Pamela Singh Bhutoria, and debutant director Mukul Roy Chowdhury.

Said Debleena,"From soulful songs to raunchy numbers, you'll get them all in Taaan."

The film, which is inspired by 'Jolbeshya' (Prostitutes of the Water) composed by Bangladeshi writer Al Mahmud, depicts the lives of women living in the remotest parts of Sundarban and thus contains the flavours of Urban and Balkan Folk in the music.

Speaking to IBNS, Pamela said,"People are going to watch the film mostly through my eyes."
