New Delhi, Apr 12 (IBNS):Commemorating 100 years of Indian cinema, beverage major Coca-Cola India on Thursday recognized 20 luminaries of the industry with the launch of the 24th edition of the Limca Book of Records 2013- 'Cinema Special' edition.
The all-new edition catalogues a special Cinema section acknowledging the extraordinary achievements of 20 Indian cinematic icons as 'People of the Year', including Aparna Sen, Jahnu Barua, Gulzar and Shabana Azmi, amongst others.
These luminaries have been chosen by an independent panel led by Member of Parliament, HK Dua, popular film critic & advertising professional, Monojit Lahiri and renowned film critic specializing in South Indian cinema, Prathibha Sastry.
Aparna Sen, leading Bengali filmmaker, script writer and actress, said, ""I am honored to have been chosen as one of "People of the Year" by Limca Book of Records.
"I thank the jury for this recognition which is special to my heart as it in celebration of 100 glorious years of Indian cinema. Our cinema has evolved a lot in the last few decades and I am glad to have been a part of this wonderful journey."
According to Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca-Cola India & South West Asia, "2013 is a year of great significance for all of us. Not only does it mark the 100-year journey of Indian cinema but also commemorates 20 years of Coca-Cola in India since our re-entry in 1993. It also begins the countdown to the Silver Jubilee of the Limca Book of Records next year."
The 24th edition of the record book was launched at a special event, held in New Delhi, by Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, along with Atul Singh and Vijaya Ghose, Editor, Limca Book of Records.
On the occasion, Tewari, congratulated Limca Book of Records for completing 24 years of showcasing India's best talent and achievements.
He expressed his happiness that this year's edition of Limca Book of Records has chosen to pay a tribute to the cinematic heritage of India, and also celebrate the work of some prominent luminaries of Indian cinema.
He said that Indian cinema has, over the years, has reflected the evolution of the country, including socio-economic, political and cultural changes and has etched a unique identity of its own at the global stage.
The highlight of the launch event was the gripping and entertaining Dastangoi performance by the dynamic duo, Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Husain.
Celebrating the magical journey of 100 years of Indian Cinema, the performance highlighted some of the most defining milestones of one of the most prominent contributors of the country's cultural heritage.
With 20 refreshing and informative chapters, the 2013 edition of the record book celebrates over 10,000 remarkable achievements out of which 6,000 are new records, all showcasing extraordinary feats of Indians across the globe.
Speaking about the 24th edition of the Record Book, Vijaya Ghose said, "As we complete 24 years of our journey, Limca Book of Records salutes the outstanding contributions to Indian cinema over the years. We are proud to honor the achievements of these outstanding personalities of Indian cinema."

•Sreekar Prasad - National award winner and a leading film editor.
•Adoor Gopalakrishnan - Celebrated Malayalamfilm director, script writer and producer. Recipient of the Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan the DadasahebPhalke Award
•Mike Pandey - An iconic documentary film-maker, three-time winner of the world's most prestigious Green Oscar/Panda Award
•Jahnu Barua- One of the pioneers of Assamese Art cinema. Recipient of nine National Awards and the Padma Shri Award.
•Dr. K Viswanath - Renowned film director, screenwriter and actor from the Telugu film industry. Recipient of four National Awards and the Padma Shri
•Prabhu Deva - Celebrated dancer, choreographer, film actor and director and winner of the National Award.
•Santosh Sivan (ASC) - One of the leading cinematographer in the Indian cinema industry. Recipient of 10 National Awards for Cinematography and Direction.
•Shabana Azmi-One of the country's finest film actresses and theatre artistes. Recipient of the prestigious National Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and the Gandhi International Peace Award by the Gandhi Foundation, London
•Kamal Haasan - One of the most versatile artistes in the Indian Cinema industry with a work profile including acting, direction, production, script writing, song writing, playback singing and choreography.
•Kajol Devgn - Versatile Indian film actress. Winner 5Best Actress Awards and holds the record for the most Filmfare Awards for Best Actress with her aunt Nutan. Also the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shree award.
•Mani Ratnam - One of India's topdirectors. He is also a producer and screen writer with several highly successful films in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. Recipient of 6 National Awards and the Padma Shri.
•Mira Nair - A world renowned film maker. Recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan award
