When will the authorities act ?
Another road accident and more precious lives lost, Pratik Reddy son of Venkat Reddy the ex minister and his friends were killed yesterday on outer ring road, this has become every day norm on roads in Hyderabad. We get see so much details of this accident in media because Pratik was a son of an influential person. This does not happen in case of a common man. Every day somebody's beloved son, daughter or a dearest one gets killed on roads. Last time when Mohammed Azharuddin's son Ayaz died there were a lot of suggestions and discussions in media and government circles as to how to avoid such accidents in future but unfortunately nothing happened. The irony is that in a country like India nobody cares about loss of life because of population growth. Human life is cheapest in India now.
We do have laws for everything including road safety but what's the use of it when it is not implemented at all. From Road transport authorities to traffic police, everyone is interested in showing off their position, or making money in the name of checks. These people are seen busy in checking the vehicles for one or the other document but we do not see them in action on roads. The authorities concerned need to make the people have high regard of the road safety rules and laws, this can only happen if these men in uniform take interest to make sure that people follow these rules. They need to be in the mid of the roads educating the people and correcting them by showing them what the rules are . Unless concrete action is taken we may see more people losing lives on the road every day.
