Indian Textile majors to grab Branded School Uniform Market
Mumbai, Jun 13: The emergence of new schools and colleges across the country and demand for International schools, has seen a phenomenal growth of the branded school uniform market in India, providing enormous opportunities for the Indian textile giants such as Mafatlal Industries, Raymonds & S.Kumars.
School uniforms are a product, targeted at a particular section of the society. the growing market for private education and schooling in India is providing growth prospects to this industry. Furthermore, industry players are also interested in increasing their presence and reach in the market.
State governments are also creating opportunities for the textile companies as they offer uniforms through Sarva Shisha Abhyan to students in the schools, run by Municipalities or Gram Panchayats.
At present, the size of school uniform market is Rs.10,000 crore and the yearly growth rate is 15 per cent, a release said.
The key trends in the market have been highlighted which include apparel retail giants introducing school uniform brands, use of sophisticated technology and players tying up with schools. Large players are readily tying up with retail giants and schools towards increasing visibility.
The unorganized market provides a threat to the organized players; however, large players are tapping the opportunities available in the market to increase their revenues and sales.
Mafatlal Industries Ltd., a flagship company of Arvind Mafatlal Group, will increase production of school uniforms this year from 120 lac mtrs. to 150 lac mtrs. in Shirting & Suiting. Apart from Mafatlal Industries Ltd, branded high quality school uniform manufacturers like S Kumars is also focusing on increasing the production of their Suiting range.
''We have clocked a total business, worth Rs 65 crore from school uniforms alone, while we are eyeing for a 90 crore business this year'', said M B Raghunath, Sr. Vice President at Mafatlal Industries Ltd.
The company is expecting a total business from all the segments of uniforms at Rs 200 crore this year, he added. (Agencies)
