IBM bets big on India, turns 100 on June 16
Bangalore, May 5 : Global IT giant IBM which has made major investments in India in setting up global delivery centers, research and software labs in many locations, will focus on the emerging markets to drive its growth in the wake of its primary markets in the Americas and Europe being flat, a top company official today said.
''About 140 emerging countries where the IT penetration is low will be our main focus and in India we will be looking at several non metro cities which have largely remained untapped,'' IBM India Managing Director Shanker Annaswamy said.
Speaking to reporters, he said telecom sector will be the main focus area, while banking, financial services, infrastructure, enterprise data warehousing and cloud computing will the other areas of focus of IBM India.
Incidentally, the oldest IT company in the world will be celebrating its centenary on June 16 and IBM India will join other IBM offices around the world for the occasion.
In India, IBM is the largest IT services provider. About 70 per cent of its Indian revenues come from services and the rest hardware. (Agencies)
